Fake news and the effects on the pandemic

The covid-19 pandemic has resulted a lot of controversy since it’s development. Many people around the globe have had different opinions that have given rise to fake news. Through this fake news, this fake news has harmed the perception of the pandemic. One of the effects that this fake news has caused is the perception of people seeing that there is no covid-19. Many people in the world don’t believe that there is such a disease. Through many government efforts making sure that their citizens are healthy, many of the citizens fail to follow covid-19 rules and regulations such as wearing masks, keeping social distance, and many others more. This has resulted to be a burden for many nations in the world to be able to control this deadly flu-like disease known as coronavirus. (Fernández-Torres, et al. 2021) The recent effects of fake news on the pandemic are about the covid-19 vaccine. The vaccine has caused a lot of arguments, with other saying the vaccine has side effects and it’s not an appropriate thing for a human being to use while others are in agreement that the vaccine is the right way to control this pandemic.
In this essay paper, I am going to discuss how the procedure of researching influences my understanding as it is connected to media learning. Explaining how I became more media well-educated after investigating my topic, expounding on how my view moved as it relates to media knowledge after finishing my project, how the project altered my viewpoint on media exits and how they convinced me in watching and responding to their content, the local and global groups that work on the issue of media knowledge and the ones that work on subjects connected to my capstone task.
The procedure of investigating influenced my understanding as it is connected to media literacy; all along I have believed that the media plays a positive role in informing and educating people. But through my research, this influenced my understanding that media can be both positive and negative at the same time. For my topic, media has contributed much negativity to the pandemic rather than it has done on the positive influence. Through researching, I was able to understand how media can be used negatively to influence people, many people do believe in media, media has a powerful impact on a citizen of a country.
On how I became media literate after researching my topic. Through research, it helped me to become media literate in five ways. To begin with, I was able to clarify what I need for every social network or app which I was using to do my research. Additionally, I became media literate by being able to filter my thoughts, I was able to train my awareness that helped me to determine what’s worth knowing. (Simons, et al. 2017) Also, I was able to check my emotions, this made me media literate, whenever I read a headline or a story about the pandemic, I took a minute to ask myself, is this true or false? I also became media literate by filtering the sources which I was using to research my topic and finally, taking smart actions in smart networks.
My views shifted, after completing my project, I was able to determine or to know that media can be positive and negative at the same time. It depends on the perception of an individual or the user. For instance, without filtering your sources, one can end up having wrong information, hence saying that the media spreads wrong information. The project altered my viewpoint on how the media openings coax people to view and respond to their content; I was able to learn that getting good information involves thorough research, some media just put an enticing headliner or a story to influence their readers to read their article.
The local groups that work on the matter of media knowledge are; cable in the classroom, family online safety institute, and national association for media literacy education. On the international organization, the national association for media literacy education. The organization that works mostly on the themes that are connected to my capstone project is the national association for media literacy education as it deals with educators, academics, and activists. People can get involved in them by applying for programs, for instance being a student, an educator, and an activist. The contacts for NAMLE are; phone: (888) 7752652 and the website is www.namle.net. The notion that will specifically initiate the media literacy is the creation of an evaluation tool that will assist media literacy educators to identify and report on the impact on their work. This will help a lot in managing the issues that are related to media literacy.
